Good evening.
Big news has come to Sapporo.
Hokkaido’s popularity has been increasing in recent years, with the number of foreign tourists visiting Japan in 2024 increasing by 40% compared to 2019. In addition, international access has also increased significantly, with the number of weekly international flights exceeding 2019 levels for the first time in the first quarter of 2025.
And now, a world-famous hotel group is joining the fray.
IHG Hotels & Resorts
Announced that it will open its second Holiday Inn & Suites in Japan in Sapporo, Hokkaido, around autumn 2025.
The 195-room Holiday Inn & Suites Sapporo Odori Park is scheduled to be rebranded and reopen around autumn 2025 after a major renovation of the old hotel. The renovation includes renovation of all guest rooms, the establishment of a new gym, and the introduction of a lobby cafe that reflects Holiday Inn’s characteristic “open lobby” concept. The “Open Lobby” is a space that combines design and functionality, allowing guests to freely choose how they want to spend their time and relax.

IHG Hotels & Resorts currently operates 10 brands and 52 hotels across Japan, with 14 more hotels in the works. In Hokkaido, they operate 3 brands (Vignette Collection, Crowne Plaza, and Holiday Inn) and 5 hotels, and the first InterContinental brand hotel in Hokkaido, the InterContinental Sapporo, is scheduled to open within the year.
Sapporo has been attracting more and more inbound tourists every year.
