Today, we’ll be focusing on Tomakomai, located near Sapporo. Tourist information for Tomakomai can be found on the Tomakomai City website [Note 1]. Additionally, the Yahoo Travel website introduces 21 tourist spots in Tomakomai [Note 2].

One of these, Lake Utonai, is a freshwater lake famous as a “wild bird paradise,” home to over 250 species of wild birds. It serves as a stopover for various migratory birds, including geese, ducks, and swans. Many people visit the lake to birdwatch, which can be seen throughout the seasons. It is also Japan’s fourth Ramsar site. Hotels near Lake Utonai are listed on the following website [Note 3]. If you’d like to take your time viewing the lake and its nearby wild birds, you might want to book a hotel.

Tomakomai is also famous for its surf clams. The FOOD section of Platt Minato Market [Note 4] features a variety of restaurants, but Kitameshi seems to be a particular fan of surf clams [Note 5]. The grilled surf clam and seafood bowl set is recommended, but they also offer other dishes, so why not go and check out the menu?
