Recent Ainu Activities
2025/10/30
Did you know that there is an ethnic group called the “Ainu people” [Notes 1-2] in Hokkaido, the Tohoku region, and parts of Russia? While the Ainu population is low among Hokkaido residents, they continue to maintain their ethnic identity. For example, a National Ainu Museum and Park called Upopoy was established in Shiraoi as a space for ethnic coexistence [Note 3].
Recently, an Ainu group living in Chitose established a signboard called “Shikotsu-ior” to further promote Ainu cultural preservation [Note 4]. Chitose City has provided some of its city-owned land to the Chitose Ainu Association as a place to cultivate trees necessary for traditional Ainu rituals and crops for Ainu cuisine [Note 5]. The land has now been named “Shikotsu-ior,” and a signboard has been erected for the land.
The situation for the Ainu people is certainly not easy, but there is a law called the Ainu Culture Promotion Act [Note 6], so it would be great if the Ainu people of each region, not just Chitose and Shiraoi, could live with pride in their identity.

THC Sapporo’s outcall service covers Chitose City [Note 7]. It also covers Tomakomai City, near Shiraoi Town [Note 7], so those living in Shiraoi Town are also welcome to contact us. As a particularly foreigner-friendly escort club in Hokkaido, we dispatch escort girls to various regions. We offer a high-class nightlife experience for foreigners, so please enjoy our escort service.
