It’s that time of year again.
That’s right! The Hokkaido Marathon!

The Hokkaido Marathon is Japan’s only full-scale marathon held in the summer. What began in 1987 with just 439 entries has now grown into a large-scale city marathon with a capacity of 20,000 people (with a six-hour time limit).

One of the unique features of the race is the “Tokyo Olympic Legacy Course,” which connects Sapporo’s famous landmarks.
This course runs through the city of Sapporo, where the marathon events of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics were held.
Starting at Odori Park with a countdown from Sapporo’s landmark, Sapporo TV Tower! You’ll run through the Susukino shopping district and Nakajima Park, through the shady greenery of the Hokkaido University campus, and past the Former Hokkaido Government Office Building, affectionately known as the “Red Brick Building.”
The course has some ups and downs in the first half, but from the middle onwards it’s mostly flat. You’ll feel like an Olympic athlete as you enter the finish line, which is located on Sapporo Ekimae-dori, the same street as the Olympic Games!
