I had to laugh and explain. “Outcall” means coming to the client’s hotel, while “incall” means the client comes to our establishment. No actual shouting or using a secret phone booth is required.

Bow? Or Handshake? Greeting rituals can get a little ridiculous at times. A foreign customer tried to bow, but I leaned in to shake his hand, resulting in an awkward half-hug that surprised both of us. I also accidentally bumped my head with a tall American customer when I bowed just as he was about to high-five me. Now, we laugh and do the bow-and-handshake dance until we get it right.

These lighthearted moments are what make my night shift so enjoyable. I’m now almost fluent in the gestures I use when something doesn’t translate well.
